Parliamentary sports event great success for Port Hills charities
Saturday’s Parliamentary sports event was a great success with the community raising around $20,000 for 0800 Hungry and Hohepa Canterbury. This money will be a big help to many people across Christchurch.
Thank you to the hundreds of people from all across Christchurch who came along to the games and after-match function and to the Canterbury netball and rugby legends players, selectors and coaches. I want to also acknowledge my Parliamentary colleagues who took part. It was fantastic to see MPs from across the political spectrum working together outside of Parliament for the good of our communities. The Parliamentary rugby side won their match 29 to 12, while the Canterbury legends scored a narrow victory over our Parliamentary netball team, winning 33 to 30. If you missed the games, you can watch them on demand on CTV.
Thank you also to our local businesses for their sponsorship, including Star Media, Christ’s College, Toltech Print, Harrington's Breweries, and Motivationz. Because of their generosity, we have been able to donate all the money raised directly to charity.
Please continue to show your support for 0800 Hungry and Hohepa Canterbury by liking their pages on Facebook, and please do consider donating to these causes. Both provide valuable services across our Port Hills communities and are well deserving of our support.
